“Francis, Viscount Lovell” 11th October2010
As part of her visit from the United States, Jo Ann Ricca will be speaking to the Society on Monday 11th October at Saxton Village Hall about her work on Francis, Viscount Lovell. Francis Lovell was a close friend and supporter of Richard III who continued to champion the Yorkist cause until the Battle of Stoke in 1487and his subsequent mysterious disappearance. This will be an opportunity to learn more about this enigmatic figure and also to raise some funds for some of the projects and scholarships supported by the Foundation.
This is an additional date to the calendar and is already generating a lot of interest. The presentation begins at 19.30 and all are welcome.
Next meeting
With the 550th Anniversary of the Battle Wakefield to look forward to at the end of the year, our calendar begins to commemorate the event. Our next meeting is on Monday 6th September. The evening will be led by Helen Doggett who will be delivering a presentation entitled “The Battle of Wakefield 1460- The Latest Perspectives”. Helen recently published a very well received book of the same title which documents her detailed research and formulates updated theories on the events of 1460 and challenges some of long hold ideas about this conflict which led to the slaughter at Towton. Please come along a learn more about Richard, Duke of York’s final battle.
As we carry on the theme in the 550th anniversary year of the Battle of Wakefield our last full meeting before the Christmas event will feature John Aveyard, who was part of the excavation team on Sandal Castle in the 1960s

Merchandise
Our merchandise sales continue to grow and we will be purchasing pens and pencils in the near future to add to the portfolio. We are also investigating the possibility of acquiring some childrens arrow shaped novelty pens and some Towton emblazoned Bags for life. It is hoped that we will be able to add a merchandise page to our website in coming months.
