It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of our patron , Robert Hardy CBE .
From the beginning he was the patron and great supporter of our society. He had kept close, attending our events and promoting our work. The most publicly notable being to attend our commemoration day and present the small film at the top of our website. Something he did with the disarming ease and professionalism of the great actor he was.
Of his acting carreer much has been written elsewhere, but from an TBS perspective one of his great interests was that of the English Longbow. As well as being a keen bowman he wrote one of the authoritative books on the subject “Longbow: A Social and Military History” which I notice was in its 5th edition in 2012, also “The Great Warbow: From Hastings to the Mary Rose” with historian Matthew Strickland . He was a consultant on Longbows for the May Rose project.
He will be greatly missed and we give our condolences to his friends and family.
