Battle of Towton memorial day announced for 2018

This year our memorial guided battlefield walks will be held on the Saturday 24th of March, the day before Palm Sunday. Walks will start at the Barn on Old London Rd (behind the Rockingham Arms, Towton).

Please come to learn about the battle and the varied work of the TBS and how to get involved, but also to remember the fallen from this fateful battle on Palm Sunday 1461.

Walks will commence at: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 am and 1:00 pm, Price £4 per person. Please do not park at the Rockingham Arms but drive down to the Barn where parking will be sign posted.

This year we are pleased to have the Frie Companie present to give us a taste of medieval life, but please note this will not be the large event of the past.

I am from Bowmen of Leeds and some of our members may be interested in coming to find out more about Towton. I am trying to work out whether there will be anything going on on March 24th apart from the walks – eg is there a display in the Old Barn? Will Frie Companie be present in the field behind the barn (as it says they will be there to ‘give us a taste of medieval life’)? Between what times will it be?
    Thank you,

      Hi Carol

There will be some stands in the Barn (as usual if you have been before). Due to the weather the Frie Company will probably be in the Barn as well (rather than in tents !) We will have examples of longbow archery (no shooting I’m afraid) typical armour of the period and crafts. The barn will be open from 10:00 till about 3:00 (the walks will leave the barn as listed in the post).

We look forwards to seeing you (and sorry for using so many brackets:) )
