Guided walk around the Towton Battlefield Trail

June 9 @ 10:30 - 14:00

We have a full schedule of walks arranged for 2024.

Please register your intention to attend.

The link to Eventbrite at the bottom of this entry gives access to the booking page for this walk.

Our walk starts by the barn on Old London Road in Towton (near the Rockingham Arms) at 10:30. Please park by the barn. The What3Words reference is mission.skinning.glares

The walk is a circuit of part of the battlefield. It starts in the village of Towton and moves to where the Lancastrian forces stood at the start of the battle. The guide will describe the events that lead up to this fateful day, the battles at Ferrybridge, Dintingdale and Towton and will lead the group around the area across which the route took place. Key locations will be viewed, and topics including the combatants, English society, the weapons and armour in use at the time will be discussed.

Both the ‘traditional’ account of the battle, and the more recent reinterpretation of the source documents, will be covered during the walk.

The walk is along an undulating grass farm path, approximately 4 km (2 and a half miles) long and will take between two and a half and three hours to complete. Stout footwear is recommended as the trail can be muddy.

So that we can monitor the number of attendees for each walk, an Eventbrite event will be created. If you can, please register your intention to attend a walk. If you are not able to access Eventbrite, please email and let me know which walk you want to join and how many places you will need.
